If there’s one simple detail that I love about weddings, it’s always the wedding toppers. I love looking at funny and whimsical wedding cake toppers. Although I also love elegant looking ones like the rhinestone cake letters that I once saw in another wedding. It had authentic Swarovski crystals in it and it looked so gorgeous on the cake.

These toppers first became popular in the late 1920s. Originally, the toppers were a representation of the bride and groom doing several poses. Tradition says that these were then removed from the cake and kept as mementos for later on. As its popularity continued to rise especially during the 1900s. The variation in the poses also changed. The poses were no longer strictly of a bride and groom side by side, but they have expanded to whole range of actions. You can see that some of the most endearing toppers of today have whimsical and comical wedding poses, like a groom “fishing” for his bride, or a groom dragging his bride by the wedding gown while the bride desperately clings on to the floor etc. These are all cute and funny to look at. Some cake toppers are even customized to make it extra special for the couple celebrating their big day.
